Objectives: In this workshop, you'll learn and practice Phulkari, the folk embroidery of Punjab, on a fabric sampler. We will explore the traditional varieties of Phulkari, including Chope, Sainchi, and Bagh, and embroider a Phulkari motif from back to front, using darning stitch, herringbone, and satin stitch. Additionally, the teacher will discuss traditional dyeing methods, such as madder (Rúbia Cordifolia) and other natural techniques, historically used to naturally dye hand-spun cotton bases for these embroideries. This workshop is taught in English by Gul E Raana, originally from Punjab, Pakistan, and the founder of Wenlin Studio — a brand dedicated to embroideries and natural dyeing.
